Iva Gueorguieva’s (b. 1974, Bulgaria) abstract paintings and sculptures investigate notions of space, illusion and movement. Drawing on the legacy of Abstract Expressionism, the artist’s paintings are driven by a sense of urgency, a desire to orchestrate chaos and recreate the complexity of life on canvas.

Iva Gueorguieva is known for investigating notions of space, seeing, and illusion in her work. Her paintings—which contain countless layers of collage—push, pull, and pulse with a dynamic energy. After spreading paper and fabric on her studio floor, the artist paints, stains, and cuts the pieces into shapes before transferring them onto canvas.
